Amina’s Small Business Brings New Hope

Amina Ali lives in Wanlaweyn District in Lower Shabelle, where she shares a small home with
her family. Like many young people in the area, she struggled to find opportunities to earn a
living. Before receiving support, Amina had no reliable source of income, and meeting basic
needs was often a challenge for her household. Most days, she depended on occasional help
from relatives and neighbors.

Through the EU Negaad, implemented by SHACDO in partnership with Concern Worldwide and
funded by European Union, Amina was identified as a vulnerable youth in need of livelihood
support. As part of the program, she received a vegetable-selling table, an initial supply of
vegetables, and simple guidance on how to manage a small business.
With this support, Amina started selling fresh vegetables in her neighborhood. At first, the
business was small, but with time more customers began coming to her stall. The daily sales
now provide her with a modest but steady income, helping her cover basic needs and support
her family.

Today, Amina’s vegetable stall has become an important source of income for her household.
She is able to buy more stock, continue running her business, and contribute to daily expenses.
Amina shared how the support changed her situation:
Before this support, I had no way to earn money and life was very difficult for me and my family.
Thanks to SHACDO, Concern Worldwide, and the donor supporting this project, I started this
small vegetable business. Now I can earn income and help my family. It has given me hope for
the future.

Amina’s story shows how small livelihood opportunities can make a meaningful difference in
the lives of vulnerable young people. Through its livelihood programs, SHACDO continues to
support communities in Lower Shabelle by creating opportunities that help families improve
their incomes and build more stable lives.
